| "Skyfall" director Sam Mendes |
Speculation was rife that Mendes would be back to helm the next installment in the Bond franchise after the record-setting results of "Skyfall" (more than S1.1 billion at the global box office). Unfortunately he has taken himself out of the running with
this announcement on the official James Bond facebook page. Mendes cited theatrical commitments as his main reason for turning down Bond 24.
In a statement that followed Mendes producers Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli acknowledged Mendes announcement and added: "
We would have loved to have made the next film with him but completely
respect his decision to focus on other projects and hope to have the
opportunity to collaborate with him again.”
