Unlike the ship "Titanic" the movie refuses to sink. |
15 year old "Titanic" is showing the new kids what
real box office clout is all about. The 3D release of James Cameron's 1997 blockbuster has pushed the film past the $2 billion mark in worldwide box office, making it only the 2nd film in history to accomplish the feat, (the other of course being Cameron's "Avatar"). Over the weekend Titanic sank the competition, including overseas weakling "The Hunger Games", largely on the strength of a $58 million opening in communist China. That total represents the biggest opening weekend in history for the totalitarian state beating the previous record of $55 million set by the third "Transformers" movie. The 3D release has now grossed $190 million worldwide and shows little sign of slowing down any time soon.
