"Hey buddy! Can ya spare a few hundred million?" |
It seems a little hard to believe but Dreamworks Studios, producers of Academy Award winners "American Beauty" and "Gladiator" along with a slew of highly successful animated films including the "Shrek" series has had to go back to its business partner Reliance ADA out of India for more financing just to keep the doors open. The new deal will allow Dreamworks to stay in business but with a pretty dramatically cut back release schedule. The new deal requires Dreamworks to focus solely on big, tent-pole movies or small budget affairs. Nothing in between. As such the studio will produce 8 to 10 movies over the next couple of years including two films in 2012: "People Like Us" and "Lincoln".
