"Noah" - trailer

I don't know what's stranger: that they'd make a movie about Noah in 2013 or that a film about Noah would be directed by Darren Aronofsky. It makes a certain amount of sense I guess when you consider Hollywood's penchant for end-of-the-world storylines. I can imagine being in meeting: "Think 2012, but retro!"

"Noah" hits theaters March 28, 2014.

Extended trailer for "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug"

They're calling this a "sneak peek" but it's really an extended trailer, and a darn good one at that.

"The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" opens wide December 13th.

New TV spots for "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug"

I see approximately 1.7 seconds of new imagery in these two spots but I'll take what I can get.

"The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" opens wide December 13th.

Thor returns, Jane gets whiny in new "Thor 2" clip

Apparently dealing with chaos in the 9 realms and saving humanity from Loki's intergalactic mercenary army isn't enough for some people. In this clip from the upcoming "Thor: The Dark World" the god of thunder must deal with his most formidable opponent yet; a lady who's staked a claim to him after little more than some sweet talk and a kiss in the desert. Time to give Darcy a second look.

"Thor: The Dark World" opens November 8th.

First trailer for "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit"

Chris Pine stars and Kenneth Branagh directs this Tom Clancy story that isn't from any particular Clancy novel. Keira Knightley also surfaces in something other than a POTC movie and the cast is rounded out by Kevin Costner and the director himself playing a Russian baddie. Looks slick and well put together.

"Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit" opens on Christmas Day.

New "Thor: The Dark World" featurette

Tom Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth talk about the dynamic between Thor and Loki in this short featurette. Happily the piece also includes a few tidbits of footage not seen in the trailers.

"Thor: The Dark World" hits theaters November 8th. Can't wait.

"Out of the Furnace" - trailer

Christian Bale continues to make interesting acting choices and this tale about brothers in rust-beltia trying to squeeze a living out of an unglamorous and unforgiving environment is no exception. When his younger brother (an Iraq War veteran and bare knuckle fighter played by Casey Affleck), disappears Bale's older brother goes after the local hillbilly kingpin (Woody Harrelson) for answers. Forest Whitaker, Zoe Saldana, William Dafoe and Sam Shepard co-star. Scott Cooper ("Crazy Heart") directs.

"Out of the Furnace" opens December 6th.

New full trailer for "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug"

In the first Hobbit film it seemed a little like Peter Jackson was flailing around a bit trying to get a hold of the material. If what I've seen so far for "The Desolation of Smaug" (including this new trailer) is any indication I'd say he's found his footing. Lots more Legolas here too which indicates Orlando Bloom won't just be a walk-on like Elijah Wood was in "An Unexpected Journey" and at last... the dragon speaks!

Look for "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" this December.

Featurette for Alfonso Cuaron's "Gravity"

In this roughly 4 minute feature the director makes the case for seeing his latest effort in 3D. And it's a pretty good case. Check it out.

"Gravity" hits theaters October 4th.

New TV spot for "Thor: The Dark World"

This one has a few snippets not seen in the trailers and is free of the trailer's semi-comical ending.

"Thor: The Dark World" opens November 8th. Can't wait.

Head's a-poppin' in this new red-band trailer for "Machete Kills"

Apparently RR pushed back release of his "Machete" sequel to allow a little more time for the special effects teams to perfect the look of someone being sliced and diced by helicopter blades. And I must say, "Well done!" Probably NSFW unless you work in a slaughterhouse.

"Machete Kills" opens October 11th.

First trailer for "Robocop"

This new version of the 80's sorta-classic stars Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman and Michael Keaton (Michael Keaton? Yes, he's back! sorta) and looks to take full advantage of the advances in special effects technology made over the past quarter century. Will it work? Who knows? Here's the trailer.

"Robocop" opens February 7, 2014.

Full trailer for Alfonso Cuaron's "Gravity"

Though the film stars two of my least favorite actors on planet earth and the space program hasn't been exciting since they replaced test pilots with scientists, the movie is directed by one of my favorite directors so I'll be giving it a look when it comes out.

"Gravity" opens October 4th.

New international trailer for "47 Ronin"

I don't know what they're saying but I love the way the lady in the green wrap is sayin' it.

Look for Keanu Reeves latest to hit theaters this Christmas.

A new clip from "Riddick"

Riddick faces off against one seriously gnarly alien and must save his CG puppy from depixelation in this clip from the 3rd installment in Vin Diesel's other franchise.

"Riddick" hits theaters September 6th.

"47 Ronin" starring Keanu Reeves - International trailer

Mr Reeves has been pretty quiet the past few years but he's about to try and reclaim his place in contemporary Hollywood with this big budget action film. Le blurb...

Keanu Reeves makes an explosive return to action-adventure in 47 Ronin. After a treacherous warlord kills their master and banishes their kind, 47 leaderless samurai vow to seek vengeance and restore honor to their people. Driven from their homes and dispersed across the land, this band of Ronin must seek the help of Kai (Reeves)--a half-breed they once rejected--as they fight their way across a savage world of mythic beasts, shape-shifting witchcraft and wondrous terrors.

As this exiled, enslaved outcast becomes their most deadly weapon, he will transform into the hero who inspires this band of outnumbered rebels to seize eternity.

"47 Ronin" will attempt to seize eternity on Christmas day.

Slew of new images from "Thor: The Dark World"

We thought we'd take advantage of a slow month for movie news by skipping out of town for a few days but we're back now and ready to go. First up is a baker's dozen of new pics from "Thor: The Dark World" that Empire posted recently. Malekith is front and center in this batch of photos and he looks appropriately creepy and dangerous but he's not the only one making an appearance. We also see the big guy and his brother Loki along with several other returnees from the original film; including Stellan Skarsgard looking fetching in the latest academic-wear out of jolly old Oxford.

Poster for Terry Gilliam's " The Zero Theorum"

"An eccentric and reclusive computer genius plagued with existential angst works on a mysterious project aimed at discovering the purpose of existence—or the lack thereof—once and for all."

Starring Christoph Waltz, Mélanie Thierry, David Thewlis, Peter Stormare, Tilda Swinton, Ben Whishaw and Matt Damon "The Zero Theorum" is set to debut in Europe at the end of 2013, though there is no  theatrical release date for the US at this time.

New UK trailer for Ridley Scott's "The Counselor"

When this project was being talked about a year or so ago I must admit I didn't give it much thought. It seemed like little more than a weigh station for Scott on the road to some other higher-priority project like the Prometheus or Blade Runner sequels. As footage has gradually leaked out though it seems clearer and clearer that this not a practice round before the big tournament. This is the real deal. The Cormac McCarthy story is one of an LA lawyer deciding to dip his toe into the drug biz to make a quick score like his parents might have done in the 60s. But its not the 60s and the people running the business in SoCal these days are not the hippie couple down the block but very, very nasty, conniving, unforgiving bastards with little (if any) fear of anyone or anything.

Featuring Michael Fassbender, Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, Brad Pitt and Cameron Diaz (in a rare serious role) "The Counselor" is quickly moving up my list of must see films for this fall.

"The Counselor" opens October 25th.
